“When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.” -John Muir
Our decisions and actions leave ripples that extends further than we sometimes see. It extends out in front of us, to our sides and even behind us. Never underestimate the effect of a single action or decision.
We are constantly bombarded with options, ideas, proposals, data, emotions, supporters and haters that move us to make a decision. Sometimes those trying to influence this decision do not see (or care about) the entire ripple effect of that decision. They seek one outcome, not taking into account the others who will be impacted or the later consequences.
Effective leadership considers the entire ripple and its impact prior to making a decision, as sometimes those who seek to influence outcomes are not seeing the whole picture. Avoid tunnel vision with your decisions and actions. It’s fine to go out and make ripples, and even MAKE WAVES, but be mindful to know if your wave is pushing the surfer along or toppling boats.
